If your bid on a task is successful you will be notified via email. You must accept the task on the Bid's I've Placed page before the task will be awarded to you. At this point the other bidders will be notified they have been unsuccessful.
Upon acceptance you'll receive an email with the task owners details and you can proceed to make contact using email or private messages. You can create a new private message by clicking the email icon next to the task owners name on the Bid's I've Placed page.
Should you decide not to proceed with the task you can decline. The task owner can also withdraw the offer if you take too long to accept the task.
